The Whole preparation for this race went so well, and at the start line I knew that I have done the best for this day.
But at the beginning I did not feel that great, and after Roland Green set up the pace I could keep up with him. He and Michael Rasmussen were most the time around 1 min. ahead of the group I was riding with. Untill the last lap we were still four (Frischknecht, Evans, Brentiens) together, and I tried hard to go away on the longest climb. There was still the bronze to win, and I did not wanna leave Vail without beeing on the podium. Only Frischi could stay up with my pace and the others droped back.
Before the very last short climb, Rasmussen, who was riding in second flated and Firschi and myselF passed him with fighting hard against each other.
Unfortunately he had a little bit more "juce " left and beat me by 7 seconds at the end.
It was tremandous week for me with all what happend in Ameica.
After the Tuesday terror attackings it was hard to get conCentrate for the race again, and I felt like this is just "peanuts" what we are doing here compared to what was has happened in New York.
Finally I was glad that our world was still going on, and if not this would have been in the interest of the terrorists.
I hope with our spectacular racing we could make forgett what happened here for a couple of hours to some people.
