I did sleep very well and I am ready for today. I was not as nervous as I thought I will be for this big race. Even on the start line I felt more consentrated than on any race before.

I had a good start, but just right before going into a single trail a young italian rider crashed in front of me. I totally rode over his bike and lost my good position again. Fortunately I did not loose the contact to the leaders, exept Frischi who just rode away from everybody. Like this I could ride passiv and saved energy for the big final. This was important, because to win an olympic medal you should for sure not ride with the brain in the legs! In the climbs I pushed hard enough so that I could always close the gap in the downhills again.

With one and a half laps to go Merhage, Martinez and myself passed Frischi who was always riding one minute ahead of us. Unfortunatley I did not have any more power to keep up with those two guys but I was pretty safe for third.

It was an undiscribebable feeling coming towards the finish line with this huge crowed, and I tried to enjoy it for mysleve as much as I could, because I knew after crossing the finish line I will be a busy man.

Exactly what happened, and after giving tonnes of interviews and making pictures, we (the swiss team) went for a very nice dinner to the swiss-house downtown Sydney, and there was a lot to celebrate...

18.12.2000 00:09:34 Which bike used?
From Alex Hernandez, Bogota, NJ
hello,
I was wondering which bike was used at the olympics?
Was it the F2000, or the Jekyll?
Thanks,
Alex
