7 Laps plus a big Start Loop, 2.02hrs Race Time
Second Place, 28sec behind Julien Absalon
Euro Champ is big time racing, especially it is important for your country and cycling federation.
I arrived pretty tired on Friday, since I trained and raced very hard the last two week.
The drive to Italy took almost the whole day, and when I arrived I prefered a good massage, instead of riding the course.
On Saturday I managed to go on the track in between the Junior races. I realised that my legs were not so fresh, but on the other hand I got very excited about the course. A lot of long steep uphills, but they were always broken down with short accelerating flat parts for to speed up, or recovering on the other hand.
Well, on race days I always used this flat part to speed up, and that is where I made up my time, and this was very important since I had a very bad start.
But after one lap I was in the lead together with Kessiakof, but when he slowed down a little, Absalon -who rode in 3th 20sec behind us- could move up and attacked hard ride away. After he slowed down I went over the lead and made a good move in the downhill, and finally always rode 30sec ahead of him.
500meters to go, I suddenly heard a noise like a broken spoke in my rear wheel. But it was a nail sticked in my tire! I lost all the air completely after the nail came off the tire a few seconds later. Luckily there was still a tech zone right before the finish, but my advantage to Absalon was to tight, and he passed me when I got my spear wheel fixed again. First we took the chance to seal the hole with air foam, but unfortunately this did not worked out.
Luck comes around and goes around!
