60kms, 2.15hrs race time, first place,
1minute ahead of Philippe Vullioud
This is the first time I have had this cool summer feeling at a race at home, here in Switzerland. The race is very nice, too. Just one big lap, with lots of up and downs.
Today, like in Prague, I raced with a super light wheel set up. The Specialized Fast Track Team Tire (1.8 size, 360gr.) with the brand new prototype NoTube rims (270gr.) These rims must be the lightest in the whole world!!
Accelerating with such a set up is crazy, and I did not feel like I lost any stiffness, or had to ride like on eggs. Sure with a bigger tire I wasn't so careful minded, but even with this setup I was really fast in downhills, even though I only knew the course from last year.
So, it was no wonder I won the race :-)
After the middle of the race I broke away with Philippe. It was very windy and I needed a big guy to ride with. He lost his water bottle in a rocky section, and I helped him out with my whole water bottle. Sure I got thirsty, but I needed some draft too!
With 10kms to go I attacked on a steep climb, got away and won my first race of the season. It was about time, as since the Cape Epic team race I have not celebrated!
