Last weekend I raced "my" new Maxxis Cross+Mark tire. It is designed by me together with Maxxis. It is a super good rolling tire with maximum side grip. The mud clearance is surprisingly good, and you can ride it in wet conditions too.
I was glad to see that this tire was also the choice of riders like Cedric Gracia in Four Cross!
Second Place in a Sprint Finish, right behind Ralph Näf
At the start line I was pretty glad that I had won the World Cup title already. Somehow I did not want to have that extra pressure for the last big race, even though I think that I ride better when I am under it.
But I was out there with my Cannondale Rush, and it was brand new... the first time I managed to ride it was on the morning of the race day!
Unfortunately the overnight UPS shipping from the Cannondale factory here to Scotland got messed up, and it only arrived on Friday afternoon. Thanks to my mechanics who had to work very late into the night to get the "Rush" project going for Saturday's race day. It is good to be able to have trust in my excellent mechanics!
After the start, my team mate Frederik made up a good lead of 1min. He could keep it up all the way until the last 10min. of the race, but from there on a storming Ralf Näf, with me on his back, wheeled passed him, and we sprinted for the victory. He is a very good sprinter. I knew it, but I could also not drop him before, so I was the first, but tight loser!
I definitely had an advantage in the super technical downhills with my new Rush bike, which has 110mm of rear travel. I felt safe and in control most of the time, even though I crashed twice. But that is a rider's mistake, and when it comes to racing you also have to take some risk.
I really like the stiffness to weight factor of this bike. Also the low bottom bracket what makes it so easy to handle. I had no problem to get used to it.
It is a super good all around bike, and sure, if I would have to buy one bike only that cover all type or riding like: rough terrain, touring, racing, gravel roads or shopping only, the Rush would be my pick!
