2.14h Finish Position: 2nd
The race started out really well for me and my team mate, Roel Paulissen. After one lap we already had a good lead and managed to straighten the gap out. Half way into the race the lead was almost 2min. and we were the virtual world cup leaders.
But our excitment got cut off by a huge thunder storm with lightning, rain and hail. I did not know that hail can hurt so much, but this was a much smaller pain than losing our top spot out there.
These conditons were just ideal for Filip Meirhaeghe who was riding in 5th before the storm turned in. In these extreme conditions he somehow found the "key to his turbo engine" and moved up and passed us like a motorbike!
I was suddenly struggling with my cooling down body, dry set up tires and road shoes in the walking sections, but I was definitely not the only one out there with problems.
I am now second in overall standings, 100 points behind Meirhaeghe.
Now, if I win the final race, I can only win the overall if he does not finish better then 5th.
The race is still on!
